WORKSHOP
SOMATIC GROUNDWORK + DANCE
Sat May 9th from 2 pm till 4 pm

In I AM THAT STUDIO in Collingwood

Join us for a two-hour workshop blending somatic resources, the intelligence of the Feldenkrais Method, and the expressive freedom of dance. This workshop invites you to awaken to your embodied presence.

We’ll begin with slow, gentle, floor-based movement sequences to tune into body awareness, soften tension, and reconnect with natural movement patterns. From this grounded state, we’ll explore our inner skeletal organisation in relationship with gravity, space, and at times, each other.

Through guided partner explorations and simple touch-based practices, we’ll discover new ways of sensing, supporting, and responding (totally optional)

We’ll then transition into guided improvisational dance, opening space for expression, creativity, and free movement to emerge. Not from effort or performance, but from a felt sense listening.

No dance experience is needed, just a curious body and mind. This is a space to move authentically, reconnect with your sensitivity, and access a sense of ease and joy.

For anyone seeking a more alive connection with their body.

What to expect:

  • Guided Feldenkrais explorations to soften tension, increase mobility, and enhance body awareness

  • A somatic approach to dance that prioritises sensation, expression, and creativity over performance

  • Gentle partner work and explorations of touch (always invitational)

  • Guided improvisation and space for intuitive, playful movement

  • Nervous system–sensitive facilitation that supports safety and self-regulation

  • A welcoming, non-judgmental environment for all bodies and levels of experience

  • Integration of stillness, movement, and reflection

WHY THE MEDICINE OF DANCING?

Many of us, because of different past life experiences that couldn't find a way to be expressed or be integrated, end up in rigidity or chronic pain, loosing vitality, ease, naturalness, spontaneity and authenticity in the way we move. So as we recall and find more harmonic ways of moving, the impact is seen directly in the way we feel, we think, we perceive, in the way we are in the world and connect with the environment.

Through somatic dance-movement we:

  • Restore natural patterns: By exploring more fluid, varied, and harmonious ways of moving, we remind the nervous system that there are options beyond tension and rigidity.

  • Release stored patterns: Movement gives shape to what words sometimes cannot. Dancing allows us to express and integrate experiences that may have remained stuck or hidden in the body.

  • Reconnect body and mind: As we move with awareness, new neural pathways form, influencing how we feel, how we think, and how we perceive ourselves and the world.

  • Awaken vitality and spontaneity: When movement becomes freer and more authentic, so too does our way of being. Ease, play, and creativity return to daily life.

  • Deepen connection: As we regain naturalness in movement, we also open to richer connection, with our environment, with others, and with ourselves.

Dancing is not about performance or skill, it’s about re-inhabiting our bodies as living, expressive beings.
